1985: Bob Jones punches a reporter
TV
reporter Rod Vaughan wants to know why Bob Jones has put the New Zealand Party
into recess for 18 months. He charters a helicopter and tracks Jones down to
the lower reaches of the Tongariro River, where Bob is fly fishing. When
Vaughan’s
helicopter lands on the
riverbank, Jones −
infuriated by the ‘intolerable
harassment’ − runs out of the trees, and delivers a solid punch to Vaughan’s
nose while suggesting he ‘F*** off out of here!’ When he is fined $1000, Jones
asks the judge whether paying $2000 would entitle him to do it all over again.
