Dennis Potter, who was born on May, 17, 1935, was one of Britain’s most innovative – and controversial – TV writers. His works include Vote, Vote, Vote for Nigel Barton, Pennies from Heaven and The Singing Detective. He died on June 7, 1994, aged 59, after suffering from cancer of the pancreas and liver.
