The London bookseller Foyles has reported an 8.1pc surge in like-for-like sales in December on the back of investments in its stores and the success of titles such as Lena Dunham's memoir Not That Kind of Girl.
The chain of five London stores, and one in Bristol, said that if only the three weeks before Christmas day were taken into account, sales were up 11pc.
Sam Husain, chief executive of the company, which is still controlled by the Foyle family, said that physical book sales were proving resilient in the Christmas season.
He said: “As print sales seem to be holding steady across the industry, we are looking forward to another good year for the physical book in 2015.”
