Two Novelists
Come and hear
Catherine Robertson and
Gigi Fenster
Catherine Robertson's debut novel, The
Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid (pub. Random House NZ, 2011), hit the New
Zealand bestseller list immediately, and got as far as number one. Radio New
Zealand called the book 'absolutely brilliant', with another reviewer
describing Robertson as 'a new national treasure'. The German
translation will be published by Heyne in April under the title Wo Bleibt denn
nun mein Happy End? Robertson's second novel, The Not So Perfect Life of
Mo Lawrence/Das nicht ganz perfecte Leben der Mrs Lawrence will be released in
New Zealand in early August and in Germany in November, though copies will be
available in bookshops in time for the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Gigi Fenster has an MA in Creative Writing
from Victoria University. She has been published in a variety of literary
journals, including Sport and Hue and Cry. Her first novel, The Intentions
Book, was published by VUP earlier this year. The Sunday Star Times
review described The Intentions Book as “an altogether stunning debut
from expatriate South African Gigi Fenster”. The New Zealand Herald review
noted that “Gigi Fenster has made a standout debut with her novel” and
“Victoria University Press has launched an author who is like a breath of fresh
air”.
