From the PANZ Newsletter
We wish publishers
Harriet Allan, Fergus Barrowman, Kevin Chapman, Debra Millar, Claire Murdoch
and Diana Murray well for their first Leipzig Book Fair experience. They will
be accompanied by several authors and Sarah Ropata, Tanea Heke and Michelle
Tayler who is from Ministry of Culture and Heritage.
“The Leipzig Book Fair is the most important spring meeting
place for the publishing and media sector and has evolved into an attractive
hallmark both in Germany and across Europe. In a nutshell, the aim of the
Leipzig Book Fair is to drum up more publicity for books. Held every March,
it's a massive draw for publishers, writers, readers and journalists. An ideal
communication platform, the Leipzig Book Fair provides extensive information
about new publications as well as current and future trends in the
German-speaking and European markets.” More
on the Leipzig website.
Nevertheless
the accolade she is most proud of winning with Rita Angus: An Artist’s Life
is the Nielsen Booksellers Choice Award in 2009. “Institutional books can
sometimes have the deathly whiff of vanity publishing about them and not seen
as commercial – which of course we strive to avoid. So when real booksellers
give a book this award, and you know it has appeal to the whole book trade, you do feel you’ve got something right.”
