You are invited to celebrate the publication of RUSSELL HALEY'S
new novel - THE SPACES BETWEEN
to be held at Tivoli, Oneroa, Waiheke Island on Sunday March 11 at 5pm
A talk by poet/dramatist MURRAY EDMOND will accompany the launch. Murray is
Associate-Professor in the Department of English, The University of Auckland. He teaches Drama and is also the author of stage and radio plays.
RUSSELL HALEY'S writing career began in the sixties, when he published in NZ
and American literary journals.
He was a driving force in the publication of the radical magazine Freed in
the late sixties and edited its final issue 'Freed at Last' in 1972. Russell is the author of books of
poetry, short stories and a number of novels.
Among his many publications are Real Illusions (1984, published in NZ
and America) and Beside Myself (1990).
He co-edited (with Susan Davis) the Penguin Book of Contemporary New Zealand
Short Stories (1989) and wrote the biography Hanly: A New Zealand Artist (1989).
The Oxford Companion to New Zealand Literature has Russell Haley as 'a leader
in the movement away from critical realism in New Zealand fiction'. He has also written scripts for
several radio dramas broadcast in New Zealand and Australia.
Russell is digging into the archives and putting issues of Freed and
other books by him on display for the occasion.
