Dear Graham,
Thank you for reproducing the cover from a 1949 Parsons Packet.
My father used to hibernate downstairs writing for two weekends before each Parsons Packet was produced. The three young boys, Jeremy, Julian and Roger were supposed to keep a little quieter at this time but that , of course , was impossible. However with two large sections at the top of the Island Bay hills in Wellington there was plenty of room to roam. Should a fire break out in the gorse bushes scattered around the suburb ( as happened once or twice a year ) the Parsons Boys would disappear with their " beaters" to assist the local Firemen.
A Best of Parsons Packet was compiled by Bridget Williams and published by the Parsons Family on 24 June 1984 for Roy Parsons' 75th Birthday. Somehow the publication was kept secret so it was a complete surprise for Roy. Production was not without some difficulties. At one stage we needed to get quick access to various issues of Parsons Packet. The only complete sets were at the Parsons' Senior residence and the Alexander Turnbull Library. The Parsons Boys burgling skills were called upon and the Production Schedule maintained.
Roger Parsons.
