Canada's Big Fiction Prize Grows
Canada’s biggest prize for fiction, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, just got bigger. As the 2014 longlist of nominated books was revealed yesterday, the prize’s founder, Jack Rabinovitch, announced that the prize purse will double, to C$140,000. The winner will now receive C$100,000 and each finalist will receive C$10,000. more »

Austen Fans Set New World Record: This past weekend, hundreds of Jane Austen devotees descended upon the British city of Bath to celebrate the author’s work at the annual Jane Austen Festival—and they set a Guinness World Record in the process.

The Strand Evacuated : Tuesday afternoon, an irritant, possibly pepper spray, was released in The Strand Bookstore in New York City. The bookstore was evacuated, and those who inhaled the irritant were treated on the scene.

Kerouac Letters on the Block : Skinner Inc. is auctioning a newly discovered cache of letters by Jack Kerouac, dating back to 1939.
