Book to reveal 'true nature of ISIS'

The Guardian’s south Asia correspondent Jason Burke is to write “an authoritative guide to the new phase of radical Islamic militancy”, to be published by The Bodley Head.

Editorial director Will Hammond acquired world rights to The New Threat from Toby Eady at Toby Eady Associates.

Burke will provide “the overarching context with which to understand the true nature of new groups such as ISIS and Boko Haram that have emerged in the wake of the death of Bin Laden and the Arab Spring, as well as more broadly the ever-evolving threat from Islamist terrorism in the coming years”.

Hammond said: “With his unrivalled access as a reporter over the last two decades, his outstanding talent as a writer and as the author of three critically acclaimed and highly influential books in this field, Jason Burke has proven himself uniquely qualified to explain this most urgent subject.”

Burke has previously written books about Al Qaeda and 9/11.

The New Threat will be published in 2015.
