Mansfield fellowship boosted to $100,000

One of New Zealand's major literary prizes has been boosted.

Wellington author Damien Wilkins will spend a year in France at the villa in Menton where Katherine Mansfield lived and wrote in the 1920s.

New sponsorship by New Zealand Post this year means the prize is now $100,000.
The chairman of the Katherine Mansfield Menton Trust, Richard Cathie, says the prize has now been taken to a new level.
He predicts it will strengthen New Zealand's body of literary work.

Previous winners have included Janet Fame, Witi Ihimaera and Lloyd Jones.
Bookman Beattie extends warm thanks to NZ Post for their generous sponsorship.
NZ Post also sponsors the NZ Post NZ Chil;dren's Book Awards.
Hats off to them. They are wonderful corporate citizens.
