Publishing Intern Programme 2008

The Book Publishers Association of New Zealand and Whitireia Community Polytechnic invite applications for the 2008 Publishing Intern Programme.

The Intern Programme, funded jointly by participating publishers and Creative New Zealand, offers three six-month placements in the industry to graduates of the Whitireia Diploma in Publishing. It is designed to provide hands-on experience in publishing, so interns can develop their practical skills and make the transition into full-time work or freelance careers. This is a marvellous opportunity for publishers to engage talented and qualified publishing graduates and bring new blood into their businesses.

Participating publishers provide substantive work for six months at a pro rata salary of $30,000 of which they will pay 50% (ie, $7,500). Internships are expected to begin in late January.

Applications are due by 1 November 2007.

To be considered for the Intern Programme, please provide:

1) A clear job description. If you plan to use the intern in a range of jobs over the six-month period please provide job descriptions for all positions.

2) A short account of the benefits that you can offer the intern and that you expect to gain from participating in this scheme.

3) Agreement to the following conditions:
· the intern will be employed under the same terms and conditions as other staff
· the intern’s work will be reviewed after three months
· formal feedback will be provided to BPANZ and Whitireia by both intern and publisher. Publishers will be expected to provide interim feedback at three months and formal feedback to the intern at the end of the six-month period
