CHEATING AT CANASTA
William Trevor Viking $45

There seems to have been a host of wonderful books published this last week, here is another.

What can one say about this great man? He has won almost every literary award known including the Man Booker in 2002, the Irish Times Literature Prize five times, the Whitbread Book of the Year Award, the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and a host of others, too many to list here but to view them all and his bibliography go to the excellent British Council website. He was given an honorary CBE in 1977 for his services to literature, and was made a Companion of Literature in 1994.

He is one of the most prolific and highly rated of Irish writers and a new collection of his short stories is reason for celebration.

Amongst this collection are short stories of great poignancy while others are bitter,, thought provoking, ironic, sordid, compelling and remorseful.
Read these and read a master of his craft.

Great blog by the way Bookman, I like the absence of ego which is prevalent in so many other blogs I visit.
