The anticipated benefits are huge. Many hope that driverless vehicles will eliminate traffic accidents, end congestion, spark economic growth and provide cheap and convenient mobility for all. But countries that want to fully realise these benefits – and avoid the pitfalls – will need to ensure their legal houses are in order. Penguin Random House ceo Markus Dohle announced Thursday
morning that Penguin Publishing Group president Madeline McIntosh has been made ceo of
Penguin Random House US, still reporting to Dohle. "This appointment
aligns our structure in the US with that of the rest of our territories,"
Dohle writes. He notes that, "Over the past three and a half years, Madeline's
decisive leadership and creative instincts for compelling stories and ideas
have ensured a smooth and successful transformation of the Penguin business.
She is now one of the most well-rounded and experienced executives in
publishing."
All of the US publishing groups will report to McIntosh, along with operations, sales, and the author platforms & digital publishing development team, including the audio publishing business. (Communications, corporate development, human resources, finance/M&A, and legal all continue to report to Dohle.) Looking forward, Dohle writes that, "Over the next five years, we will strive to further grow our publishing business in the U.S. and internationally, especially in growth regions and emerging markets. Given this strategy and the size and importance of the US business for Penguin Random House worldwide, now is the right time for dedicated leadership in our US market."
Current svp, strategy and finance Allison Dobson is promoted to take over as president of Penguin Publishing Group, effective immediately. McIntosh writes of Penguin, "Having worked together over the past few years through many organizational and market-driven changes, this team has come out the other side with a strong, stable structure and with invigorated employee and author talent; they are well positioned now to focus on the future." Dobson's "finely balanced strategic and emotional intelligence, coupled with her passionate enthusiasm for our publishing mission, has made her an invaluable partner not just for me, but also for the Penguin publishers as we’ve worked together to refine and strengthen our lists and business performance over these past few years. Her quick, analytical mind enables her to take the lead in simplifying and resolving complex situations."
In other personnel news, Jaime Levine will join Houghton Mifflin Harcourt on April 30 as senior editor focusing on acquiring psychological suspense, thrillers, and mysteries.
Theresa Collier has been promoted to senior manager, publicity and marketing at Artisan Books.
At Sourcebooks, Jillian Rahn has been promoted to associate art director.
The Guggenheim Fellows were named for 2018, including fiction writers Rachel Cusk, Andrew Sean Greer, Lauren Groff, Jennifer Haigh, Min Jin Lee, China Miéville, and Deb Olin Unferth; nonfiction writers Nicholson Baker, Teju Cole, Robert Finch, Roxane Gay, Jane Kamensky, John Jeremiah Sullivan, and Lily Tuck; and nine poets.

Wendy - the Peter Pan Musical
Very excited to have today re-launched the brand new Alver & Doy's "WENDY The Peter Pan Musical".
With 20 original songs, it tells the traditional tale but with Wendy right at the centre as our hero. We launched at the Aotea Centre in Auckland in December (as Peter Pan) to 10,000 people, but now we are ready to take it to the world in this new guise.
