Youngsuk 'YS' Chi has joined the board of Ingram Industries, the privately-held
owner of businesses including Ingram Content Group. Currently non-executive
chairman of Elsevier, Chi had worked at Ingram Micro as a director and later vp
and general manager, Asia Pacific, and had served as chief operating offcer at
Ingram Book Group and co-founder and chairman of Lightning Source.
Shaughnessy Miller has joined Random House Children's as school & library marketing coordinator. She previously worked in marketing and communications roles at Bloomsbury and Abrams.
Trevor Dolby has joined Toby Mundy Associates as associate agent, focusing on nonfiction. He was the founding publisher of Preface at Penguin Random House UK, from which he retired last year.
Obituary
Former head of Groupe de la Cité, Jean Manuel Bourgois passed away on February 19. In a long career in publishing, he was the youngest person to ever serve as president of the French Publishers Association, the youngest person ever to hold that position, and also served as chair of the European Publishers Association. An obituary notes: "Speaking fluent English and with a disarmingly un-French perspective, Jean Manuel was widely consulted and respected in the international community for his far-ranging and perspicacious views on the publishing business and its challenges, especially when new media first began to encroach on publishers' traditional turf."
Awards
The PEN America Literary Awards were presented at a ceremony on Tuesday evening. Layli Long Soldier's debut poetry collection Whereas won the $75,000 PEN/Jean Stein Book Award; and Jenny Zhang's short story collection Sour Heart won the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction; and Ursula K. Le Guin was posthumously awarded the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay.
