04.04.14 | Joshua Farrington - The BooksellerPublisher and c.e.o. Stephen Page and Angus Cargill struck the deal with Deborah Rogers at Rogers, Coleridge & White for UK and Commonwealth rights in The Buried Giant.
The book is described as a novel about “lost memories, love, revenge and war”. It will be published in March 2015. A dozen other territories have been sold including Brazil, Japan, Spain, France and Germany, with Knopf releasing in the US and Canada.
Page said: "A new Kazuo Ishiguro novel, ten years on from Never Let Me Go, is a huge moment for us as a company, and The Buried Giant is a truly sublime new chapter in one of the most significant bodies of work of anyone writing today. It is as surprising, moving and brilliant as you could hope for, and we can’t wait to publish."
The deal follows the news that Faber signed UK rights in Peter Carey’s latest novel, Amnesia, about a computer virus that opens prison cells in the US and Australia.
Amnesia was also signed from Rogers, who is the recipient of this year’s London Book Fair Lifetime Achievement in International Publishing Award.
Rogers said: “Peter Carey, Kazuo Ishiguro and Ian McEwan have all delivered new novels, each different and wonderful in their own way.”
