He may have completed a swim of the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar, but the St Jude storm seems to have stolen a victory from David Walliams.
The comedian and children’s author has seen his latest book, The Slightly Annoying Elephant, fall victim to the sea after thousands of copies were damaged when they fell into the sea.
A boat carrying copies of the book from China to Britain was struck by the storm in the Bay of Biscay in October, and around 30,000 copies were damaged.
Some copies of the book have arrived on shelves in the UK but retailers including Waterstones have said they need more, the Sunday Times reported.
Walliams is the UK’s most successful children’s writer. His book The Demon Dentist sold more than 220,000 copies since it went on sale two months ago, and in total his six previous books have sold 2.8 million copies in the UK alone in the last five years.
