NBA Finalists in Young People's Literature Announced
On Wednesday, the National Book Foundation announced the finalists for the 2012 National Book Award in Young People's Literature.

Disney Overhauls Paper Sourcing Policy
The Disney Company said Thursday that it is overhauling its paper sourcing policy in a change that will maximize recycled content and fibers sourced from Forest Stewardship Council-certified operations and eliminate paper products containing "irresponsibly harvest fiber, such as fiber from High Conservation Value Areas." The Rainforest Action Network, which had been critical of Disney Publishing's paper policy, praised the move as one that will help slow the deforestation of rainforests, particularly in Indonesia. While RAN began talking to Disney about only its publishing operations, discussions on how to improve its paper policy moved to include the entire Disney company. more

Groundwood Books co-publisher Sheila Barry will take over from Patsy Aldana, who is stepping down from her role as co-publisher of the Canadian children’s house she founded 35 years ago. more



New Survey Finds Bullying Atop List of Serious Teen Issues
HarlequinTEEN, in partnership with the Jed Foundation’s Love Is Louder movement, has released the findings of a new survey that indicates 70 percent of young women between the ages of 16 and 21 have been bullied, and 78 percent of those surveyed believe that bullying is a more serious problem than parents and adults realize. more
