Shackleton Bear - famous bear goes south
Shackleton Bear Goes South
By John McCrystal

PiP Publishing
Ever since he learned that he is named after a Famous Polar Explorer,
Shackleton Bear has known that it is his destiny to go to the South Pole.
Now he’s getting his chance.
He’s off to Antarctica via the sub-antarctic islands and the Southern Ocean, and who knows, he may even get an opportunity to make a dash for the pole…
Children of all ages will love to join one of New Zealand’s best-known bears on his voyage of discovery,
seeing what he sees as he encounters all the wildlife and the natural wonders of this special part
of the world.
Shackleton Bear travelled to Antarctica as part of the high-profile Our Far South expedition raised and run by millionaire philanthropist Gareth Morgan. Over 100 primary schools throughout New Zealand followed his adventures on the Internet via photographs, an interactive Q&A spot, his weekly blog and an eight-part series of video diaries (with a jingle written specially for him) produced by students of Samuel Marsden Collegiate School. Since his return, Shackleton Bear has been visiting schools and delighting children with his stories and his photographs, and he continues to update his Facebook Page and his blog on the Our Far South website:
