Rights in E L James' Fifty Shades trilogy have sold to 41 foreign publishers, with the erotic novels translated into Dutch, Spanish, Italian, German, Romanian, Portuguese and Serbian so far. Mondadori in Italy has printed 1.39m copies of the trilogy to date. Meanwhile French publisher Univers Poche has launched a new digital imprint 12-21 which will offer short erotic reads classified according to "their level of 'pleasure'".
» Disaster deal for S&S
S&S has signed bestselling self-published author Jamie McGuire after a "heated bidding war". Beautiful Disaster will be published as an e-book today (12th July) and as a paperback in August. S&S UK fiction editorial director Maxine Hitchcock said: "We all know from the phenomenal success of Fifty Shades of Grey that it all starts from reader passion and recommendation—online or in the physical world."
