Renowned New Zealand children’s book author Jack Lasenby has paid tribute to fellow author Margaret Mahy who passed away yesterday.
Mr Lasenby, who has a library of his own impressive work, says the world has lost one of its greatest writers and story tellers.
“She was a colossus, perhaps too big for us to understand,” he says.
“She had this power of intelligence and imagination that you rarely ever see. She knew who she was and she knew her value but she was so every day about it.
“I last spoke to her a couple of weeks ago on the phone and she said she was unable to write and of course there was a great plangency to that – she who was never without pencil and pen,” he says.
