In 2012 as part of New Zealand’s
Frankfurt Book Fair Guest of Honour programme, three German and three New
Zealand poets took part in a unique cultural exchange when they came
together in Tolaga Bay to witness the Transit of Venus astronomical
phenomenon. The creative fruits of their shared experience has now been
assembled into a poetry collection.
Goethe-Institut, Royal Society of New Zealand and Victoria University
Press warmly invite you to a reading and launch event for the Transit of Venus /
Venustransit poetry collection.
6pm on Tuesday 23 February at the Royal Society of New Zealand, 11
Turnbull St, Thorndon, Wellington
The event will include a video performance from Berlin-based poets
Hinemoana Baker and Ulrike Almut Sandig, live readings from poets Chris
Price and Glenn Colquhoun and a conversation about the 2012 Transit of
Venus celebrations and the eco-restoration Uawanui Project that provided
the impetus for this multi-layered international poetry
collaboration. Chaired by Dr Lydia Wevers FRSNZ and member of the
