Lord Gavron, owner of The Folio Society and Carcanet Press,
has died at the age of 84.
Gavron's death, thought to be caused by a heart attack
suffered on Saturday (7th February) after playing
tennis, comes just ahead of the announcement of the shortlist for the
second Folio Prize, to be made later today. |

Publisher Scholastic UK has teamed up with SuperAwesome, a
children’s marketing platform, to find new authors and intellectual
property (IP) creators.
Under the terms of the deal, SuperAwesome will match-make
Scholastic with media, animation and game developers. In addition, the
SuperAwesome insights team will work with Scholastic to test concepts and
initiatives in the bookmarket. |

Around 700 events took place to celebrate National Libraries
Day on Saturday (7th February), 100 more than the previous year, according
to CILIP, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals,
which now organises the day. |

publisher Third Millennium Information Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
Profile assumed responsibility for Third Millennium publishing

The Quarto Group, Inc. has entered into a new four year
syndicated bank facility.
The Quarto Group has signed a $95m (£62,344,141.40)
multicurrency revolving credit and term loan facility with The Royal Bank
of Scotland, Bank of America, Santander UK PLC and Fifth Third Bank. The
new facility matures on 30th April 2019 and replaces the existing
syndicated bank facility, which was due to expire on 30th April 2015. |

The first ever Laureate for Irish Fiction, Anne Enright, has
told The Bookseller
that the role is “a mixture between an honour and a job”.
Enright, who won the Man Booker Prize in 2007 for The Gathering
(Jonathan Cape), was named the inaugural Laureate for Irish Fiction on 29th
January.As part of the role, she will receive €150,000 over the three-year
laureateship, teach creative writing at University College Dublin and New
York University, and deliver an annual lecture. |
