Lord Lucan escaped via private airfield in Kent, new book claims

The book, published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the peer's disappearance, suggests Lord Lucan hired a hitman to kill his wife but then "came to his senses" too late to prevent the murder of the family nanny

Lord Lucan flew to his freedom from private airfield in Kent, hours after failing to stop a hitman murdering his children's nanny, according to a new book published to mark the 40th anniversary of the peer’s disappearance.

The book, by Laura Thompson, reveals new evidence suggesting Lord Lucan arranged the hit but then "came to his senses" and tried to prevent it. But he arrived at the family home in Belgravia, London, too late to prevent Sandra Rivett, 29, being bludgeoned to death, or the serious injury of Veronica, Countess of Lucan, on November 7, 1974.
Lucan then escaped to France via a private airfield in Kent, according to Thompson’s account, ‘A Different Class of Murder’.  More
