Six-figure E L James deal for Cornerstone

Century and Arrow have acquired bestselling romance trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey by E L James, with the e-book editions out now and the first book in the trilogy coming in print next month.
Vintage Books in the US signed world English rights, with Cornerstone publishing m.d. Susan Sandon and Century and Arrow publisher Selina Walker buying UK and Commonwealth rights via Valerie Hoskins of VHA in London for a six-figure sum.
The three titles in the series are Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, with Fifty Shades of Grey to be released as an Arrow paperback on 12th April 2012, priced £7.99. The second and third books will follow in physical editions "shortly after".
The trilogy has reportedly sold more than 250,000 copies in e-book and paperback editions already, and follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Fifty Shades of Grey was first published in May 2011 by The Writer's Coffee Shop Publishing House in Australia.
Walker said: “These truly are the books everyone is talking about—pretty much around the world. They are romantic, liberating, and utterly page-turning, and have sparked more round-the-table conversation than any books I can remember. We are delighted to be publishing the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy in Arrow, and to be welcoming E L James to our publishing list.”
James is based in west London and is a former TV executive. Fifty Shades of Grey topped the New York Times bestseller lists.
