(RTTNews.com) - Google Inc. Tuesday unveiled its new site Google Play, which combines its Android applications market, e-book store and music store. The change is expected to help Google catch up with Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc.), who are leaders in the digital media market, as well as to make it easy for its customers.
"Today we're eliminating all that hassle with Google Play, a digital entertainment destination where you can find, enjoy and share your favorite music, movies, books and apps on the web and on your Android phone or tablet," the company said in an official blog.In the US, music, movies, books and Android apps are available in Google Play, while in Canada and the UK only movies, books and Android apps will be offered. In Australia, Google Play will offer books and apps, while movies and apps will be available in Japan. Everywhere else, Google Play will be the new home for Android apps, the company said.
The Android operating platform is currently the world's most used operating system in smartphones. Major smartphone makers like Samsung, LG, Sony-Ericcsson and Motorola, all use Google's Android platform.
Google now aims to take advantage of this wide use of its smartphone software and its giant share in internet search to improve its market share in digital media market.
Google Play will also be cloud-based, which means it will store users downloaded music, movies, books and apps online.
