Barnes & Noble Inc. is expanding a nascent effort to install boutiques
within its stores selling books and other items associated with the Penguin
publishing house, the latest step by the retailer to boost store revenue amid a
shift toward e-books and sales of physical books online.
Since last fall Barnes & Noble has been testing Penguin boutiques in 10
stores in states including New York and Minnesota. The boutiques consist of 200 square feet of dedicated space for the sale of Penguin titles and merchandise such as tote bags, notebooks and mugs.
