The sixth annual WORDS ON A SMALL ISLAND The Waiheke Book Festival 9 -12 October

Words on a Small Island - the Waiheke Book Festival 9-12 October at island venues

Take a journey with words, writers, films and poetry. An inspiring four days in the company of award winning authors, non-fiction writers and performance poets.
During the festival a free project, the Stream of Words, will encourage the local community to add their poems about water  and island life to the installation in the  courtyard of the new Waiheke Library.  These poetry contributions will form waterfalls and whirlpools of words following local history about a stream running on the Artworks site.
Join the workshop with prize-winning poet and leading creative writing tutor Cliff Fell (right) who will walk the stream course.  Waiheke’s extraordinary storyteller Tanya Batt adds a children’s session with watery tales.

Enjoy wine, memoirs & photographic  books along with acclaimed photographer and conservationalist Craig Potton, wine writer John Saker and the well known  Aucklander, Sir Bob Harvey at the gala lunch at Mudbrick on October 12.

Discover a treasure trove of new books hot off the press.  Maritime adventures include Graeme Lay’s  James Cook’s New World and  Bruce Ansley with  the updated  version of Johnny Wray’s South Seas Vagabond.
Art followers can join Jeff Thomson at the  festival opening with his exhibition of work and  book celebrating three decades of  his work  Corrugations.
Be inspired with tempting books to recline in a deckchair with over summer.
