The Michael King Writers’ Centre sixth residential workshop, Publishing Now.

Residential Workshop 2014
Publishing Now

A residential workshop on publishing – for writers

Applications close soon for the Michael King Writers’ Centre sixth residential workshop, Publishing Now.

This three-day residential workshop in November will provide writers with thorough understanding of what is happening in publishing today and how to go about having work published.
The workshop will feature many of New Zealand’s leading publishers and publishing experts in a relaxed setting. There will be fewer than 30 participants, so sessions will be informal and interactive. The final session will be a publishers’ lunch, with representatives from the country’s leading publishing houses.
The workshop will cover:
  • What’s happening in publishing in New Zealand and the world;
  • What’s happening to book sellers;
  • International markets and where you might fit;
  • Digital developments and ebooks;
  • How does self-publishing work and what you need to think about;
  • What your publisher can do for you and what you can do for your publisher;
  • Contracts, marketing, sales and distribution.
The workshop is aimed at published authors and mid-career writers. Places will be limited. Applications close on 25 August 2014.
