TS Eliot Prize shortlist



Forward Prize winner Jorie Graham is among the authors who have made the shortlist for the TS Eliot Prize, in a “record year” for submissions.
Three books from Picador, two from Faber and two from Carcanet have also made the 2012 shortlist.

The full shortlist comprises:

The Death of King Arthur by Simon Armitage (Faber); Bee Journal by Sean Borodale (Jonathan Cape); Ice by Gillian Clarke (Carcanet); The World’s Two Smallest Humans by Julia Copus (Faber); Paul Farley’s The Dark Film (Picador); Jorie Graham’s P L A C E (Carcanet); Kathleen Jamie’s The Overhaul (Picador); Sharon Olds’ Stag’s Leap (Jonathan Cape); Jacob Polley’s The Havocs (Picador) and Deryn Rees-Jones’ Burying the Wren (Seren).

Chair of the judging panel Carol Ann Duffy (pictured) said : “In a year which saw a record number of submissions, my fellow judges and I are delighted with a shortlist which sparkles with energy, passion and freshness and which demonstrates the range and variety of poetry being published in the UK.”
Michael Longley and David Morley are also judging the prize.

The winner will be announced at the award ceremony on 14th January 2013, when the winner will be presented with a cheque for £15,000, donated by Mrs Valerie Eliot. The shortlisted poets will each receive £1,000.
