IAN ROBINSON is this year’s winner of the Travel Book of the Year Award with Tea With the Taliban, published by David Bateman publishers. Robinson has been a previous winner of this award. His book Gantsara, alone across Mongolia won the 2005 Whitcoulls Travel Book of the Year Award which tells the story of Ian’s fascinating, often hilarious, sometimes terrifying solo horseback journey across outer Mongolia. He became the first Westerner to cross the country in this way, spending seven months in this remote, inhospitable land. He also received a Highly Commended in 2007 for his book You Must Die Once.
