BORDERS RANKED NUMBER ONE

The Book Standard reports:

Borders was ranked No. 1 for an enjoyable shopping experience, according to a survey published last month by Forrester Research, Inc.

The inaugural Customer Experience Index (CxPi) asked more than 4,700 customers to rank 112 companies based on categories such as enjoyable, easy to work with and useful. Borders also tied for No. 1 in the "easy to work with" category and ranked No. 2 overall. According to Forrester, Borders competitor Barnes & Noble also topped the CxPi.

This accolade comes at a time when Borders is re-vamping its overall business by selling its international operations, launching a proprietary website and introducing televisions into Borders stores.

"The Customer Experience Index reflects what our own research is showing—that people really love shopping in Borders stores," said Borders Group CEO George Jones. "We are proud to be ranked so highly on a national consumer study by the respected Forrester Research organization. Borders will continue to distinguish itself as a leader in providing an outstanding customer experience.

I'm proud of our entire organization; especially those who work in our stores meeting and exceeding customer needs each day."In other Borders news, the company appointed Michael Archbold, the executive vice president, COO and CFO of The Vitamin Shoppe, to the Board of Directors, effective Dec. 6."Mike brings a tremendous depth of financial and retail expertise to our Board of Directors," Jones said. "His financial leadership roles with leading retailers over the past two decades make Mike well suited for a position on our Board and we look forward to benefiting from his insights and contributions."
