Jonathan Ross withdraws from hosting the Hugo Awards following fan and author backlash

'A man famous for humour denigrating women?': Jonathan Ross withdraws from hosting the Hugo Awards following fan and author backlash

By Fay Strang

TV presenter Jonathan Ross has decided not to host the science fiction award ceremony the Hugos, following backlash from both fans and authors.

Within hours of the award show’s organisers announcing the news on Saturday, Jonathan was inundated with tweets from those who felt he was not an appropriate choice due to 'sexist' jokes he has made in the past.

Taking to Twitter to announce his withdrawal from the ceremony,  which takes place in August, he wrote: ‘I have decided to withdraw from hosting the Hugo's @loncon3 in response to some who would rather I weren't there. Have a lovely convention.’
