Recent research from Nielsen found that 'In Adult Fiction, the e-book share rose from one in three books bought in 2012, to over 40% of purchases in 2013' . But a recent poll on Lovereading.co.uk, where over 60% of its registered members read over 11 books a year, seems to indicate that the boost in ereading is higher in casual than heavy readers.
The poll showed that 62% of respondents still read 'mainly paperbacks and hardbacks' and only 21% saying they read predominantly via ereaders.
Peter Crawshaw, Director and Co-Founder of Lovereading.com said:
'while we are unique in providing all the popular 'non Amazon' eBook formats I am not surprised that the committed readers we attract still love reading a real book. Every format has its place and use but leafing through a book is one of those palpable pleasures to anyone who loves books and you don't get that with eBooks.'

It's brilliant that print on demand makes it easy to produce hard copies of even the most niche-market books. NZ writers can tell their stories and reach readers who want 'real books' to hold in their hand, and no forests have to fall for a massive print run.
