TOUGH by Amy Head launched - report from Unity Books Wellington

On Thursday the 20th of June we had the privilege of launching Tough, the first book from Amy Head. Tough is a collection of short stories set over the West Coast’s past and present. Published by Victoria University Press, $30 pb.

Despite a mammoth tempest threatening to decimate Willis Street, we had a great turn out for the launch. Readers braved the wind and rain to listen to Fergus Barrowman, publisher at VUP, and Lawrence Patchett, author of I Got His Blood On Me. Lawrence (left) gave a lovely speech celebrating all that is great about Tough.

Amy Head (below right) read us an excerpt afterwards and signed books for those who came out to support her. Amy made it all the way into the launch despite injuring her foot a few days earlier. It just goes to show you: Amy herself knows a lot about being Tough.

To all that came out against the storm – the author appreciates it, Victoria University Press appreciates it, and Unity Books appreciates it. Thank you for supporting New Zealand literature.
