Warm up for 2011 Auckland Writers & Readers Festival,

As a prelude to the 2011 Auckland Writers & Readers Fesitval, The Depot invites you to 'The Creative Hub:  Readings from Emerging Writers' and 'Lovers Walk Poetry Performance'.

Your chance to hear fresh new work, straight from the writer’s mouth.

WHAT:  'The Creative Hub:  Readings from Emerging Writers'
WHEN:  6pm Tuesday, 10 May
WHERE: Satellite Gallery's Vernacular Lounge,  Cnr St Benedicts St + Newton Rd, Newton, Auckland
COST:  Free

This event is an opportunity to hear excerpts from newly completed novels and short stories read by Creative Hub students (several have already won literary prizes), as the ink dries, before they are whisked away to become best-sellers.  You heard it here at The Vernacular Lounge first!

Creative Hub fiction students have been working on portfolios of fiction for thirty weeks with a number of leading Auckland writers, including Tina Shaw, Tessa Duder, Roger Hall, Sarah Laing, Graham Reid and Judith White.

Poetry Performance

WHAT:  'Lovers Walk : A Poetic Journey in 8 Scenes' with Siri Embla, Gus Simonovic & guests
WHEN:  8pm Saturday 7 May
WHERE: The Depot, 28 Clarence Street, Devonport
 COST:  Tickets at the door $10 waged / $5 concessions

Inspired by a free-call 0800 telephone number, this show is about aroha, acquaintance, romance, affection, devotion and liaison - love in all of its forms. This innovative performance fuses spoken word, dance and drama.

Presented by Printable Reality and created by dancer Siri Embla and poet Gus Simonovic. Video material by visual artist Peter Brierley-Millman and music by Jo Blankenburg, Gareth Priceless, Dubtext and Kotaro Nishishita.
