In Ponsonby we are fortunate to have a branch of the award-winning Devonport Chocolates so I was most interested to read this delicious little book written by the owner of that superb chocolate manufacturer and retailer.
It is designed to set our taste buds alight and get us acquainted with all things chocolate.
Chocolate has been sipped, savoured and devoured by New Zealanders for the last 170 years, yet it is only recently that people have begun to ask where, and what, does it come from, how is it prepared, why do I crave it so much and is it really bad for me.
Author Stephanie Everitt shares her passion for chocolate and experience of making it and tasting it in this beautiful little book. She tells the amazing story of where chocolate came from, of the development of the chocolate industry in New Zealand and the rise of boutique chocolate makers specialising in hand-crafted chocolates.
Stephanie also explains how the cocoa bean is transformed into one of our favourite treats, how to work with and look after chocolate, taste it and, through some of her favourite recipes, use it to create delicious cakes, biscuits and desserts. As well, she describes how to make chocolate confections at home and gives tips on decorating with chocolate.
With tips on skills such as tempering chocolate (for all those budding Masterchefs out there), creating glossy, smooth, rich truffles or a delicious chocolate cake dressed with chocolate leaves, For the Love of Chocolate will enable readers to create simple, yet delicious and impressive concoctions at home.
An ideal gift, this great little book is packed full of goodies for chocoholics to take their indulgence to new heights.
