First off let me offer my warm congratulations to Te Papa Press for a very fine piece of publishing. They have employed the highest of production and design values and this book is a joy to the eye. It has a striking cover, gorgeous end papers, is beautifully bound, and is richly illustrated with the artist's work along with family and other photographs.

And then there is the text! Trevelyan has produced a meticulously researched and highly readable biography, one of the best I have read in many a long year. This book is a winner in every way and I salute the author and the publisher for their fine work, a wonderfully fitting tribute to one of our greatest visual artists. It is a must for the bookshelves of every public, university and high school library and is required reading for all interested in New Zealand fine art. Don't miss it.
