Double Jeopardy - Politics in the Pub: Election-year-ing, & Poetry in the Pub: Spoken Word (Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival 2014)

A doctor, a professor and a unionist walk into a pub … Sounds just like the opening line to a joke you'd hear in the back bar of the Leviathan! Whatever your political leanings, this is one event that promises to entertain as the discussion moves out of the blogosphere and into the bar . Chaired by Otago-ite Grant Robertson, ex-student politician and now Labour MP for Wellington Central; with political commentator, journalist and former ACT MP Deborah Coddington. Grab a friend, grab a jug and be entertained by law professor Andrew Geddis, politics lecturer Dr Bryce Edwards and political blogger Victor Billot.

And once the politicians have finished, it's time for the poets to take centre stage.

Otago must surely have one of the highest ratios of published poets per head of population. The lifestyle, the landscape and the poetic and academic traditions of a university city - with the Scottish Bard himself sitting, Head Boy-like, at top table in the Octagon - make Dunedin a special place. After Politics in the Pub, stick around and join these poets in a relaxed and informal setting. Richard Reeve chairs readings by David Howard, Sue Wootton, David Eggleton and Rogelio Guedea .
