Miriam Frank will share her compelling story as told in her memoir: My Innnocent Absence: Tales from a nomadic life. By the age of twelve Miriam had fled two wars and lived on three continents. Her family eventually moved to New Zealand and she recounts her life in 1950s Otago where she trained to be a doctor - in her class women were far outnumbered by men.
Upon her return to Europe she settles in London and marries a German artist, former assistant to Oscar Kokoschka. She helps him establish an art school in Italy and has two daughters while juggling a busy professional life. 'My Innocent Absence is ultimately a tale of identity, belonging, and relationships.
In a world of displacement and migration, Frank urges us to embrace experiences of other cultures—and to look for roots not in a physical location, but within.' The Lancet.
