‘1Q84’

By HARUKI MURAKAMI. TRANSLATED BY JAY RUBIN AND PHILIP GABRIEL

Illustration - Richard McGuire
Haruki Murakami has translated Raymond Chandler into Japanese, and there’s a lot of Marlowe to his madness.

Thanks for putting this review up. I've been very interested in the book, however, though easy to find the advertising copy for it, hard to find substance so this fills in the gaps at last.

Actually, that review has put me off forking out money to buy the book. Might wait for the library I think.

... currently really enjoying reading Julian Barnes Sense of an Ending. The only other I'd read by him, years ago, was Flaubert's Parrot - I remember that being quite a 'way out' book, whereas Sense of an Ending has the lovely Maurice Gee readability about it.
