David Foster Wallace had a well-known tattoo of Mary Karr on his arm, but crossed that out when he got married. I have no idea if Helen Fielding, J.M. Coetzee, Martin Amis, Keri Hulme, or Ian Fleming have or had tattoos. Still, each of them have been given the tattoo treatment by Penguin, which has re-issued editions of their seminal works with covers designed by tattoo artists. We talk to Penguin "Ink" series editor Tom Roberge about the motivation behind this hip new series.

What Inspires You to Buy Replacement Classics for Your Library?
Publishers like Penguin, with deep backlists, must depend to some extent on avid book buyers buying or repurchasing multiple copies of classics over their lifetime. So what inspires you to buy multiple, redundant copies of classics you already own? New covers? Introductions?
