With an hour ‘owing’ my manager was happy for me to slip out from work this morning to attend the launch of The Teddy Bear’s Promise and the opening of The Children’s Room & Bookshop at The University Bookshop.
The new room was packed with babys, toddlers, parents, teddy bears, pre school groups, school groups, booklovers, librarians ……….. which made Kyle Mewburn’s official opening somewhat redundant!

Phillippa Duffy, the UBS manager, who has worked so hard to create this special room welcomed everyone. Kyle performed his opening and then it was over to author Diana Noonan to read her book The Teddy Bear’s Promise.
Robyn Belton, the illustrator, followed by quietly, swiftly and magically drawing Teddy Bear.
With a few flicks of her wrist, this illustration appeared……
The UBS, well-known for their tasty book launches, had drinks and nibbles on hand.
It was a delightful event and great to see so many children. Phillippa has regular book readings planned in The Children’s Room and I’m sure there’ll be lots of other events and happenings in store for us. Do visit the UBS, Dunedin’s bookstore for all the family.
I’m planning to pop back in the weekend and check out The Children’s Room – picture books to me are what ‘shoes’ might be to other women – you can never have too many!
