Penguin Random House Canada announced a realignment of the now merged sales department, leading to the elimination of five jobs. Leaving the company are Don Robinson, most recently vp, sales, and Leith Hayman, director of sales, at Penguin; Marlene Fraser, director, special sales for Random House of Canada; Ned Ma, financial analyst for Penguin Canada; and Katerina Ortakova, national accounts marketing assistant for Random House of Canada. Robinson and Fraser had been with their respective companies for more than 20 years.

As part of the restructure, Jordan Fenn has been promoted to vp, director, new business development, special markets, overseeing a combined department which will be responsible for all sales outside the traditional retail and wholesale book channels. He will also continue as publisher, Fenn/McClelland & Stewart. Newly reporting to Fenn are Janet Piper, manager, corporate and promotional sales and Sarah Cawthorne, manager, special markets for Penguin; and Teresa Napolitano, manager, gift sales; Rachelle Drobena, inside sales, special markets; and Daniel Rondeau, special markets sales coordinator for Random House.

Effective immediately, executive sales directors for Penguin Canada Tim Carter, Scott Loomer and Liza Morrison will report directly to ceo Brad Martin, continuing in their roles overseeing our national account sales. Brad Francis and Kevin McCabe continue to report to Loomer. Evp, director, sales Duncan Shields will assume responsibility for the mass merchandise channel, field sales, and library and academic sales for Penguin, along with his present duties. Director of sales James Young will add oversight of field sales and library and academic sales for Penguin Canada to his current responsibilities.

Of the realigned sales force, Martin said: "Bringing the Penguin and Random House sales departments together as an integrated team under one sales administration structure will enable us to be more efficient and effective. We now have the tremendous opportunity to develop even stronger relationships with our customers, and to ensure market-leading positioning for our authors and their books across all sales channels."
