Penguin staffer on Samuel Johnson longlist

 
Penguin Press editor Simon Winder has made the longlist for the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction 2013, with Danubia (Picador), his history of the Hapsburg family.

Eighteen books are in the running for the £20,000 prize.

Also on the longlist are Small Wars, Far Away Places by Michael Burleigh (Pan Macmillan); Empires of the Dead: How One Man’s Vision Led to the Creation of WWI’s War Graves by David Crane (William Collins); Return of a King by William Dalrymple (Bloomsbury); A Sting in the Tale by Dave Goulson (Jonathan Cape).

Also on the list are: Under Another Sky by Charlotte Higgins (Jonathan Cape); The Memory Palace by Edward Hollis (Portobello Books); The Pike by Lucy Hughes-Hallett (Fourth Estate); Disraeli by Douglas Hurd and Edward Young (Orion); and Modernity Britain: Opening the Box by David Kynaston (Bloomsbury).
