Joint Winners Of Dolman Travel Book Award 2013

Boook2Book

Sightlines by Kathleen Jamie (Sort of Books) and The Old Ways: A Journey on Foot by Robert MacFarlane (Hamish Hamilton) share the spoils.

The judges described this years short list as the strongest yet, and this is the first time in the history of the award that the prize has been split. Robert Macfarlane was unable to accept the award, as he is currently 'up a mountain' so the award was accepted by David Quentin, photographer for The Old Ways.

The award, hosted by The Author's Club, was presented at a ceremony in Hatchards Picadilly by leading British travel author and publisher Barnaby Rogerson, who praised all the nominees.

This years shortlist also included Looking For Transwonderland: Travels in Nigeria by Noo Saro-Wiwa (Granta Books), Meander: East to West Along a Turkish River by Jeremy Seal (Chatto & Windus, Random House), The Robber of Memories: A River Journey Through Colombia by Michael Jacobs (Granta Books) and The Golden Door: Letters to America by A.A. Gill (Weidenfeld & Nicolson).

A.A Gill was unable to attend, which Rogerson said was 'just as well really'.
