Vulture - By Amanda Dobbins
Maybe you’ve been following the Kelly Clarkson Antique Jane Austen Ring Saga? No? Here’s the short-ish version: Clarkson bought a gold and turquoise ring once owned by Jane Austen for $236,000, and the British culture ministry decided it was too historically valuable to leave the U.K.
The ring was put under an export ban while the Jane Austen House Museum raised matching funds, and now they have, so the ring stays put. Kelly Clarkson is being very gracious about the whole thing, but come on: first the outrageous Downton delay, and now this? Why do the Anglophiles even bother?
