SYDNEY, Australia
Allen & Unwin is thrilled to announce it will publish Peter
Garrett’s autobiography in 2015. Rights
were secured this week in a strongly contested auction. The book will be a full
account of Garrett’s life including his recent political career.
“I want to tell my story in my words and with my voice,” said
Garrett.
The book will track his journey from the northern suburbs of
Sydney through to university, then embarking on a career that would see
Midnight Oil become one of Australia’s biggest bands to his time as an
environmental activist and concluding with the most recent period as Minister
in two Labor governments.
Peter Garrett will write about Canberra from a truly unique
perspective; Labor politics and the new 24/7 political age by a former rock and
roll front man. He will reflect on the
character of the Rudd/Gillard governments; their achievements, flaws and
defining moments.
The book will reflect Peters’ personal journey, from childhood to
the present.
‘I will write with passion about Australia -- what it means to me
and what it can become.’
Sue Hines, Group Publishing Director at Allen & Unwin
says: “Activist, leader, musician –
Peter Garrett’s remarkable life will make a great and important book and Allen
& Unwin is proud to be the one putting it into the hands of his large and
varied readership. Peter has been an
inspiration to many. His stories,
insights and views will not only demonstrate his courage and humanity but provide
a compelling account of the times we live in.”
