Beacon Fast Tracks Book by Inaugural Poet - New Poetry Bookshop to Open

Late last year Richard Blanco was selected as the country’s fifth inaugural poet, a post previously held by Robert Frost and Maya Angelou.

 The engineer-turned poet was given fewer than six weeks to write three “occasional” poems, from which the inaugural committee chose one. 
Now Beacon Press is trying to undergo a similar feat of its own for Blanco’s book about writing the poem, and about his life, For All of Us, One Today. The manuscript was delivered in early August and the press plans a November 19 on-sale date for the $15 paperback. more »

New Poetry Bookshop to Open in Dumbo
A new bookstore is opening in New York City, in Brooklyn's hip DUMBO neighborhood--and if that's not remarkable enough news in itself, the store will focus almost exclusively on small press poetry books. Berl's Poetry Book Shop will open its doors in the middle of this month, soft-launching around a September 18 event to promote a new literary magazine called Sacred Behavior. more »
