John Scalzi, Brandon Sanderson, and Pat Cadigan were among the winners of the 2013 Hugo Awards, presented on September 1 in San Antonio, Tex., at the science fiction convention LoneStarCon.

Scalzi took home the prize for best novel for the comedic Redshirts. Bradon Sanderson'sThe Emperor's Soul won for best novella, and Pad Cadigan's The Girl-Thing Who Went Out for Sushi was awarded the prize for best novelette.

On the adaptation front,The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon won for best dramatic presentation in a long format, and HBO's Game of Thrones took home the short form award.

The Hugo Awards, presented annually since 1955, are voted on by members of the annual convention WorldCon.
