Debut children’s author Dreydon Sobanja (left) captivated his audience of
children and adults alike, as he launched his new Inspirational Kiwis picture
books at the St Heliers Library on Saturday afternoon.
Charming and effusive children’s librarian Carole presided over the launch,
welcoming a large crowd to the library and congratulating Dreydon on his
creativity and passion in publishing not one, but two children’s books, both of
which aim to inspire Kiwi kids to dream big and to make their dreams a reality.
She also talked about the team that was behind Dreydon, including Jill Marshall
who helped him on his way with invaluable writing and publishing advice.
Distributed by South Pacific Books, Ed
Climbed a Big Hill (illustrated by talented newcomer Jennifer Smith) and Jean Dreams of Flying (illustrated by
award-winning artist and designer Terry Fitzgibbon) are the first two books in
a new series about inspirational Kiwis by Dreydon Sobanja, from publishing
company Inspired Kids www.inspiredkids.co.nz <http://www.inspiredkids.co.nz>.
Dreydon read from his books and talked about the importance of having dreams.
Interacting warmly with the children – what a smart and sophisticated bunch! –
he asked them what their dreams were and how they might make them happen. One
little girl said that she wanted to be a princess; another little boy that he
wanted to be the “boss of the world”. Our Kiwi kids obviously have big dreams!
Before a brisk trade in books ensued, presided over by local bookseller Take
Note St Heliers, Dreydon told the children that he had brought along a ‘Dream
Box’.
He encouraged them to fill out a form (with the help of their
parents/caregivers) detailing their dreams, promising that some of them would
appear on the Inspired Kids FB page; and giving them advice about how to start
making their dreams a reality.
The launch was impressive and Dreydon is clearly
a passionate and exciting new children’s writer
